History:
The Legion was formed on 1st July 1921 after the 1st World War. The Royal Charter was granted in 1925 and the British Legion became The Royal British Legion (RBL) on the 50th anniversary in 1971. The RBL exists to promote the welfare of ex members and serving members of the armed forces of the Crown, and their dependents. The following is the 1945 epitaph on the Kohima (Burma) memorial.
When you get home, tell them of us, and say,
'for their tomorrow, we gave our today.'
The RBL Dymchurch Branch was established in 1925 and now has around 750 members of whom approximately 45% are ex servicemen and women with the remainder being Associate members. Around 1 in 5 RBL Branches have attached RBL Clubs, so, Dymchurch is fortunate in having a very active and successful Club. Application forms for Branch membership (a pre-requisite for Club membership) are available from the Club.
